The Ilz and the Danube

In late September of 2023 we had our long delayed (by Covid) 20th anniversary trip – a river cruise down the Danube. We sailed on the Uniworld line, the S.S. Maria Theresa, from Passau to Budapest. We flew in to Munich and were transferred by bus to Passau, where our cruise started. We ended in Budapest, eight days later. The weather was perfect – high in the upper 70s to lower 80s and sunny every day, except for a bit of fog in the mornings. Not unexpected on a river.

I would definitely travel with Uniworld again. The shore excursions were well planned and had English-speaking local guides. “Local” was the operative word – they really understood the cities they were guiding us through, with lots of history and details about each city or area. There were 120 passengers on board, with a crew of 60, so were well cared for. And the food was more than excellent. Menus were created based on our location, and used locally sourced ingredients.

In the picture galleries that follow, just click on any picture to open a slideshow (and to make the pictures bigger). I’m really amazed at the quality of pictures from my iPhone 13. And it’s much easier to carry around than a large professional camera.

Enjoy!
